Workers create society's wealth, but have no control over its production and distribution. A socialist society can only be built when workers collectively take control of that wealth and democratically plan its production and distribution according to present and future human needs instead of profit.
The working class is the vast majority of society and is the key to the fight for socialism. Workers' central role in production gives them a social power--by use of the strike weapon--to paralyze the system like no other social force.

War, poverty, exploitation, oppression and worldwide environmental destruction are products of the capitalist system, a system in which a minority ruling class profits from the labor of the majority. The alternative is socialism, a society based on workers collectively owning and controlling the wealth their labor creates.
SocialistWorker Org seeks to present a socialist analysis of world news and events, and to keep alive the rich and too-often-hidden history of working-class struggle and the socialist tradition. You'll find left-wing and Marxist analyses of important questions of the day from a broad range of voices on the left.
"Bush inherited a zero deficit from Clinton "
No he didn't.

The economic foundations of the blue social model are eroding.
MrWright, I hate to bust your bubble or the dream world your living in, but Boehner and the GOP controlled Congress has not passed one bill to pay anything. The only thing they are good at is extorting the American people. He wanted to piece meal a deal that would save this country from default, for a very short time. Obama did they right thing by letting Boehner choose his own destiny. Sorry but that's what really happened. Come election time, you will see just how much the American people feel about Boehner and the GOP.

People seem to forget that the 2 wars, we was in when Obama took office added to our debt. An contrary to what the GOP would like everybody to think, it was Bush and the GOP that got us in both of them. Bush inherited a zero deficit from Clinton plus a surplus, and Bush left 11 trillion dollars debt and 2 wars to Obama. It's not that I agree with everything Obama has done, but the facts are the facts. This country was practically bankrupt when Obama took office, and he made some tough decisions to turn things around. They might not have been politically correct, but they was good for this country's economy. One thing for sure, you can't change history no matter what you try to do. It's easy to point fingers and blame others for your mistakes, especially when your in a elected position
John Boehner is not the problem, he was falsely accussed of shutting down the government by Obama. John Boehner had every bill paid for except he wanted to slow down or at least not add another trillion dollars to the debt(obamascam). Of course, now we know he was correct.
This time around its going to be all on Obama, the propaganda Press will have to dig deep to blame John for anything.
The problem with the stimulus, was, we didn't spend enough, we should have spent four generations of wealth instead of three. The only way to fix a debt/spending problem is to have govt spend more and go deeper in debt.
It is sill as true now as when this question was first presented.
Fed government must get its financial house in order by reducing its spending to the historical levels of about 20% of the GDP. Instead of the +/- 24% it has jumped to under the current administration.
History has shown that no matter what stated top marginal tax RATES are enacted, the total tax RECEIPTS are just south of 20 % because those of means will utilize legal deductions or move money off shore when the top marginal tax RATES become confiscatory.
The rich didn't get to be rich by being stupid and allowing the majority of their income to be confiscated.
The only long term solution is to get our spending reduced to historic norms.
Now I know why this question gets recycled.
"USNORTHCOM recently announced on their official web site that they are ready to implement martial law. In a press release, the military command stated that the organization is ready to respond to any homeland defense or civil support mission requirement. Considering that George W. Bush has signed a directive making the President a dictator over continuity of government operations in the case of a catastrophic emergency, any homeland defense or civil support mission requirement would include the implementation of martial law. Below is the full press release which contains all sorts of wonderfully crafted politically correct language from their PR people that attempts to convince us that the use of the military domestically for all declared emergencies is perfect acceptable."
your economy is going to collapse. they are ready.....you are not.

The gov is not spending too much. Simple, the number of people that the government must serve. In 1980 there were 227million people in the United States. In 2012 there were 315 million people. THAT IS 33% MORE PEOPLE TO SERVE WITH GOVERNMENT SERVICES. Anyone complaining about how much the government spends must first understand how many people the government is responsible for to serve. Factor in inflation as well and you will see the real truth. In 1980 the budget was 590 billion dollars. In 2012 the government spent 3.5 trillion. Since inflation MUST BE CONSIDERED as well as the fact that there is nearly 100 million more people check this out. Inflation doubles on average every 10-12 years meaning that what cost you a dollar in 1980 cost you $2 in 1990 and $4 in 2000 and $8 in 2010. So $590 billion times 8 = $4.72 trillion just to keep up with inflation from the 227 million people the government serves.$1trillion less for 100million more peeps

Get real, the ACA has helped the economy and that is from the CBO. The stimuas saved us from a depression. The numbers do not lie over 40 months of private sector growth since the weak stimulas was passed by democrats in 2009. The fact that republicans have stopped ANYTHING meaningful to helo the American people like the Presidents 2011 JObs Bill shows you all you need to know why things have not grown faster.

No deal that has republican values in it will EVER help the economy of the whole country only the economy of the rich.
Can anyone name the conservative law that is being implemented right now??? Nope, because there is none and since 09 household incomes are down $2,500 which is worse than the recession in 08'. Remember 09 & 10 is when democrats rammed through all their pipe dream legislation. Stimulus, omnibus, healthcare.. Liberal policy in action fostered the outcomes you see today.

TheDifference - So the laws passed in 09 & 10 should have worked then, but they didn't!
Than what do you say about the Clinton years??
Seems history flies in the face of your last statement. It always amazes me how you people can speak with zero thought or insight.

The only deal to improve the economy is to improve the jobs market. Our businesses have been destroyed by Obama so he can turn us into his goal of a Communist country.

Only a democratic Congress and President will improve the economy more. Republicans are government sabotaging and obstructing the people using the very government they despise.

"Hillery will fix the problem with Bills help when she is elected in 2016.."
Very smart and stupid statement.
Smart because Sam has lost faith in Obama to fix anything.
Stupid because Hillary will do the same as Obama.
Just like the long glorious line of democrat politicians who destroyed the valley, Cleveland etc. People would same the same as sam said, "the next democrat will fix it" LOL, they are democrats because they hold to the same warped philosophy. It isn't the person it is the policy! Policy similarities equal similar outcomes.

I guess it's time to recycle this Trib question since the government shutdown is imminent. President Obama should let those 80 NeoCon Republicans in the Tea Party House shutdown the government setting up the 2014 elections for a Democratic sweep.
