Duck Dynasty

Okay, I admit that my kids have gotten me hooked on the show "Duck Dynasty". The Robertsons seem to be a pretty messed up family that loves each other and their antics are pretty funny. Now there is the flap over Phil's comments in GQ and A&E's usupension of him from the show. Gay rights groups are celebrating this and Christian groups are screaming about "freedom of speech". Well, here is how I see it. First of all, shut up about freedom of speech in this instance. A&E is a private entity and if they believe that Phil's comments will hurt them, they have every right to take the action that they feel is necessary. This doesn't mean that I agree with the actions of A&E. This is my second point. A&E stands to lose a lot of viewers because of this action. Their best course is to suspend him for a short while and then reinstate him, otherwise they stand the possibility that they will upset a large portion of their base for this show. No matter

I think Jesse Jackson is only relevant anymore because of the comic relief that he brings to the table.

Democrats claim not to be racist. In Maryland upcoming gubernatorial race democrat primary candidate Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler (D) is accusing African American candidate Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown (D) of playing the race card.

I thought there is no racism amongst democrats?

Obamacare will sink Gansler!

Jesse Jackson now wants to meet with A&E and Cracker Barrel! He wants to do his race hustle shakedown! He should be at the doors of the whitehouse instead of corporate America

They want free speech so long as speech is liberal speak

Yes 1st amendment, still works. So does free market. Why would liberals also not be glad that the first amendment works? Do they not want freedom of speech? I would think they do.

Agreed, nortman. Sometimes it is wiser to use our freedom of speech rights by choosing to remain silent. I also thought that if the Dixie Chicks wanted to express their political views they should have done so on American soil.

Reallytired, I will tell you what I said over the Dixie Chicks flap. I said that the Dixie Chicks were more than welcome to say what they did. I questioned the wisdom of doing it when they were out of the country, but I said they most definitely had the right to say what they did, just as Bush had the right to say what he said in rebuttal and let them all suffer the consequences of their words. he Dixie Chicks offended a large number of country music fans. These are generally people who are patriotic. Their drop in popularity was not a direct result from Bush's words, but a result from their own. Add to that, Natalie Mains interview afterward came across as whining. Nowhere did Bush threaten them or say anything that was hurtful about them, yet she said that his words hurt her heart? Seriously?

Reallytiered; Exactly. These arguments about the first amendment over stuff like this is ridiculous. Just like the war over the first amendment over religion, things get twisted and perverted by those who wish to use the Constitution to actually limit the freedom of the people. The religion part states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;". Nowhere does it say that local governments are not allowed to express some form of religious worship. This was intended to prevent the country from establishing a national religion, not to limit the ability of the people to worship.

Bobby; while what you said is true for the most part, there is still an element among Christians who do not follow the belief of loving the sinner. They are quick to condemn homosexuality and anyone who is gay. While they are in the minority (although, you wouldn't know it by the way the left-leaning media like to portray Christians) that element still exists. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with my opening post.

Missing from all the hyperbole surrounding Mr. Robertson's situation is the fact that the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution worked exactly as the Founding Fathers envisioned it. Mr. Robertson was free from any governmental restrictions to say what he wanted to, and his employer was free to take the action they felt was needed to protect their business interests. The conservative Republicans should be rejoicing that the system still works as designed.

Bluetiered, The liberals didn't create this issue, Robertson did. He's the one that opened his mouth talking about how happy the Black People were in the political environment of early 1950's Louisiana, and condemning LGBT citizens to Hades. Have you got that now, GOOFY?

There's a store in Louisiana that sells Duck Dynasty souvenirs called ******* ROOTS.

A&E knew exactly what they were getting when they produced Duck Dynasty, it IS scripted. They wanted a bunch of dumb ********, & that's exactly what they got. They looked forward to all the controversy. In Hollywood, they didn't know people like that existed. They do in Ohio!! It would be impossible to change a *******'s viewpoint.

Seems president Bush was tolerant and took the high road. Obama chose to keep his mouth shut because his hoof would have went right in it. As he usually does when he opens up flapper gapper!

But President Bush argued: “The Dixie Chicks are free to speak their mind. They can say what they want to say.… they shouldn’t have their feelings hurt just because some people don’t want to buy their records when they speak out.… Freedom is a two-way street ….”

Difference the leftist Marxists preach tolerance but behave intolerant, but behave intolerant. I never hear of this Duck Dynasty until in the news.

Got it Donald Duck!

I hope this spells the end of A&E. For what I am hearing it probably is their demise. You do not condone what is wrong. **********, murder, rape, stealing. etc. Your going to become a bigot if you do not accept other immoral acts?

Swelterstat he did not get aressted for what he said. Words have consequences A&E has every right to discipline him for what he said. Infocision has an employee policy that if you say anything on Facebook and they think that it is a risk to their Christian values they can and will fire you for being a liabity to the company. I worked at infocision and seen it happen every day.
