Mon. 5:01pm: UPDATE Belinky search warrant unsealed

February 10, 2014
Tribune Chronicle | TribToday.com

YOUNGSTOWN -- Campaign finance reports, personal finance statements, notes apparently related to the controversial Oakhill Renaissance Place, a list of Oakhill employees and checks from campaign donors are among the items confiscated from Mahoning County Probate Judge Mark Belinky's office.

The items are part of the search warrant inventory on file in Youngstown Municipal Court. Agents from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the FBI and the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office raided the probate court office and Belinky's Boardman home on Friday.

Oakhill Renaissance is a county-owned building that was at the heart of a corruption investigation that resulted in seven indictments. Among those indicted was Anthony Cafaro Sr., the former president of the Cafaro Co. and its two subsidiaries, the Ohio Valley Mall Co. and the Marion Plaza Inc., who was part of a 73-count indictment.

The charges claimed that they conspired to stop Mahoning County from purchasing Oak Hill Renaissance Place to house county agencies instead of continuing to pay rent at Cafaro-owned property. The charges were dismissed without prejudice, meaning the charges can be filed again without violating double jeopardy laws.

Tribtoday.com broke the story Friday about the raid on Belinky's office and home. Complete coverage of the latest developments will appear in Tuesday's Tribune Chronicle print edition.
