LEAVITTSBURG -- Due to anticipated flooding to occur on the Mahoning River, Trumbull County MetroParks is closing Thomas A. Swift MetroPark in Braceville, and Canoe City MetroPark in Leavittsburg, until further notice.

Zachary Svette, operations director, said the park district hopes the closures are lifted either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day but safety of its visitors are most important, therefore parks will not reopen until all hazards, if there are any, are removed.

Svette said those using any other park are to use caution as there may be trees and other debris on the ground from the high wind.

The National Weather Service had issued a flooding warning for the Mahoning River at Leavittsburg. The river was at 12.3 feet late Sunday with flood stage at 10 feet.
