Air base in Vienna holds target practice
VIENNA - The sound of gunfire overnight was not cause for alarm for neighbors of the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.
Members of the 910th Security Forces Squadron and Department of Defense Security Officers conducted a weapons qualification from 10 p.m. Wednesday until approximately 6 a.m. today.
The weapons fire is a scheduled event and is necessary to maintain the mission readiness of the security personnel assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing, base officials said.
Police wait on victim in Youngstown shooting
YOUNGSTOWN - Youngstown police are still waiting to talk to the victim of a shooting that happened on the city's South Side.
Aaron Jones, 19, was found about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday with a gunshot wound to his neck and back near the corner of East Boston Avenue and South Avenue, according to Tribune Chronicle news partner WYTV 33 News.
A resident on East Boston Avenue called police to report that someone was banging on the door trying to get in. At the same time officers were responding to that call, another call came in from an East Avondale address stating someone was pounding on the door screaming he had been shot.
That caller told the victim to go to Ally's Food Store on South Avenue and police would be alerted.
Police found a pair of bloody jogging pants on the porch of one of the houses. Officers then noticed a back door hanging open to a house at 376 E. Boston Ave., where Jones was found.
Jones is in critical condition in the intensive care unit of St. Elizabeth Health Center and has not been able to provide police with details of the shooting, police said.
