FUNDRAISER TO HELP ARIANNA'S HOPE CHEST: Arianna's Hope Chest will hold a benefit fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion Hall, 1029 N. Main St., Niles. The organization was founded by Beverly Cross-Thomas and Rick Thomas and their daughter Savanna, in memory of Arianna Hope, who passed away on Jan. 19, 2012. She was diagnosed with Trisomy 18, also known as Edward's Syndrome. The organization will help families who face the loss of a child. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Haslinger Palliative Care Team at Akron Children's Hospital. Arianna's Hope Chest will also be putting together care packages for families. WALKING PROGRAM STARTS: The Girard Recreation Department is starting its winter walking exercise program from 9 to 11 a.m. weekdays starting today in the city gymnasium, 100 W. Main St.
CHARTER ONE HELPS FOOD BANK: Charter One and Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley kicked off the holiday season with more than 8,000 meals for local families as part of the "Carving Out Hunger" campaign. Charter One's annual program to raise awareness of hunger and to provide holiday meals to local families in need provided $10,000 which will pay for more than five tons of food Charter One volunteers recently helped repack donated food and loaded trucks and vans for local hunger relief organizations.
AWL?FUNDRAISER: "Pawsitively Christmas" will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Tylee Park in Hubbard. The event will include a Chinese auction, Christmas carols, photos with Santa Claus and refreshments. Proceeds will benefit the Animal Welfare League Shelter. Call 330-394-3512.
CEMETERY EFFORTS: Newton Township Cemetery is continuing to record cemetery gravestones until inclement weather in the seven cemeteries of Newton Township. Information from the project is being compiled in a data base at the Newton administration building. Work with the Lutheran and Wilderson cemeteries is nearing completion. The location of the grave sites and photos of the grave stones are placed in the database to help the township staff with the managements of the cemeteries. The next meeting is 6 p.m. Nov. 21 at the township hall when election of officers will take place. The 2014 calendars are being sold.
