Charmayne Polen, left, was named Innovative Teacher of the Year by the Eastern Ohio P-16 Partnership for Education.
Polen was nominated, Gray said, "because of her support of 21st century skills and critical thinking, and for promoting creativity and innovation in her classroom."
Gray said Polen was a crucial component in the success of their recent iPad deployment program.
"She was one of the 'brave' who piloted the devices in year one and helped us to 'work out the bugs' and create a system that works," he said.
P-16 links all levels of education from preschool to postsecondary. Its goals are to achieve kindergarten readiness, third-grade reading proficiency, eighth-grade math proficiency, and postsecondary / career readiness.
