WINDHAM - Virginia W. Yates, 83, of Windham, passed away peacefully into eternal rest Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Hospice Care Center in Akron, with her loving family by her side.
Virginia was born Aug. 9, 1930, in Youngstown OH, the daughter of the late John and Anna Hospodar Gano.
She married the love of her life, Leroy J. Yates, Nov. 22, 1952, and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage together.
Virginia worked at A&P Foods for 30 years and also at Swagelok in Solon for 33 years.
She has lived in Windham since 1960, and formerly was of Braceville. She was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Windham, where she taught CCD classes.
First and foremost, Virginia loved her family and spending time spoiling them. She also loved to bowl, golf and travel to Las Vegas and sandy beaches.
Memories of Virginia will be carried on by her family, one daughter, Judy (Greg) Trimble of Braceville; one sister, Irene (Jack) Lavitte of California; one brother, Paul (Diane) Gano of Newton Falls; five grandchildren, Chris and Cindy McCoy of Braceville, Corey McCoy and Ryan McCleary of Leavittsburg, and Josh Trimble and Krissy Weidenfeller of Cadillac, Mich., Cassidy and Chris Wedman of Warren, and Ashley and Nate Fela of Akron; and five great-grandchildren, Somer, Nadia, Laura McCoy, Brenna McCleary and Delainey Fela.
The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, and then a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 9736 E. Center St., Windham. The Rev. Leo Wehrlin will serve as the celebrant.
Virginia will be laid to rest beside her husband, Leroy, at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Newton Falls.
