BREAST CANCER BENEFIT SET: The Beth Ann Vanek "This Means War Against Breast Cancer" benefit will be Saturday at Southington High School gymnasium and cafeteria where there will be a Chinese auction and three-on-three basketball to benefit Cyndi DeMoss of Champion who is battling terminal breast cancer. Proceeds will help her family with monthly treatments to keep her cancer in remission. The annual event was first held in 2011.
RECYCLING BENEFIT SET: A Novelis Neighbor benefit to encourage schools to participate in recycling will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Packard Park Shelter House. All proceeds from the recycling of cans will be donated to Someplace Safe. To encourage schools to participate in recycling, Novelis Neighbor is awarding a pizza party and 20 iPads to the school that brings the most cans to the benefit. FLU SHOTS OFFERED: Seasonal flu shots are being given to children age 6 months to 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday at the Niles Senior Citizen Center, 14 E. State St., Niles. No cost for those on Medicaid or those without health insurance.
SOCIETY TO MEET: The North Bloomfield Historical Society will have a guest speaker at their pot luck dinner on Thursday. The topic is the Bloomfield Clay Products Company. This corporation produced clay tile in the swamp of North Bloomfield from 1919 to 1927.
CHURCH HOLDS BENEFIT: Austintown Baptist Church will host a free event to raise awareness for breast cancer from 1 to 5p.m. on Sunday. There will breast exams, information, speakers, free lunch, raffles, and music.
DEADLINE NEARS: The YMCA of Warren will hold the Lights on Afterschool Halloween program from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 31. Registration is needed by Friday by calling 330-394-1565 or stopping at the member service desk. The first 100 children who register will receive a YMCA Halloween T-shirt along with many other prizes. Beverages and snacks will be provided. Games and activities are planned.
SMOKE ALARMS AVAILABLE: The Save A Life Smoke Alarm Program is offering the installation of free smoke alarms in Warren homes. The program was established by the Warren City Firefighters Union to prevent the tragic loss of lives in fires. Applications are available at and can be returned to any Warren Fire Department or Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership Offices, 170 N. Park Ave. Warren, OH 44481. FRIENDS?TO?HOST?BOOK?SALE:?The Friends of the McKinley Memorial Library will host a book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday; from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; and from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the McKinley Memorial Auditorium, 40 N.
