LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Joyce "Joy" Valero-Luebs, 70, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013.
One of Joy's greatest passions had always been travel. Her greatest wish was to see everything and every place on the planet while she was here.
Born Joyce Elaine Mozina in Warren on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1943, to Charles and Lucy Mozina, she told her mother at the age of 5 that she would see the world and see how people lived throughout this beautiful place. Since then, she traveled to more than 55 countries in six continents.
Joy majored in journalism and advertising art at Youngstown University in Ohio while she worked as a display artist, designing window displays.
She then went on to becoming a layout artist, copywriter and fashion artist. She was a freelance model for 10 years and recorded voice-overs for radio commercials.
She was editor of the Springfield Times in metro Washington, D.C., and reporter for several weekly newspapers and Ohio weeklies. She started a magazine for Las Vegas business women, Las Vegas Business Women's Resource Network.
She also was the monthly contributing editor for the international travel magazine, Discover Worldwide. She started an advertising agency in Las Vegas specializing in travel and health.
Joy lived in France for the year 1987, where she painted and wrote travel articles. Since moving to Denver in 1989, she mainly worked creating figurative sculptures in clay and acrylic paintings featuring people and animals. She had volunteered at the Lakewood Cultural Center teaching figure drawing classes since 2003.
Joy was preceded in death by her second husband, Allen (Val) Valero in 1998. In September of 2002, she married and is survived by Ralph Luebs. She is survived by three sisters, Carol Lazor of Ohio, Delores (Ben) Mozina-Apple of Colorado and Donna (James) Mozina-Ekstrom of Colorado; four nephews in Ohio, Charles Lazor, David (Danielle) Lazor, Daniel Lazor and Christopher (Wendy) Lazor; and grandnieces, Diandra, Daelyn and Anne. She also is survived among others of Ralph's family, by Ralph's daughter, Suzanne (Roy) Luebs Ogborn; and grandchildren, Trever, Troy and Tyler.
