WARREN - A Niles man remains at the Trumbull County Jail today in lieu of $10,000 bond after police in two communities said he led them on a chase following a dispute at the Royal Mall in Niles on Tuesday.

Sammie Summerlin Jr., 25, 55 Royal Mall Drive, Niles, is facing two counts each of felonious assault and failure to comply with a police officer. He made his initial court appearance earlier today.

The chase reportedly started at the Royal Mall in Niles and continued along U.S. Route 422 through Niles into Warren, where Summerlin was arrested just before 9 p.m.

A resident of the Royal Mall reported to police about 8:30 p.m. that a man with a gun fled the apartment complex in a green-colored vehicle. The man fired several shots at a vehicle in the parking lot, putting a hole in the hood, according to reports.

Warren police stopped the driver near Parkman Road and Union Street.

Police have provided little information about the incident, the dispute or what prompted the chase.
