LEAVITTSBURG - William Allen "Viking Al" Surrena, 52, died Saturday morning, June 15, 2013, at home. A cause of death is pending.
He was born July 24, 1960, in Warren, and is survived by his parents, William E. and Alice Surrena of Leavittsburg.
Allen was a self-employed home construction worker for many years. For the last 2 1/2 years, he was employed with Comprehensive Logistics. He was a graduate of LaBrae High School Class of 1978.
Allen was well loved by his community, and proudly served as the Viking mascot for the LaBrae School District for 15 years. Allen enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was also a big sports fan and cheered on the Green Bay Packers and the New York Yankees. He attended Glen Christian Foundation Church.
Allen is survived by his wife, Sherry Surrena of Leavittsburg; his son, William Anthony "Tony" Surrena of Leavittsburg; his daughter, Sarah (Nicholas) Popczun of Bellefonte, Pa.; and sister, Kim (Frank) Monachino of Twinsburg. He leaves several nephews and nieces, brothers- and sisters-in-law, John (Beverly) Jackson, James (Terri) Jackson, Lavada Jackson and Valerie Jackson. Allen also left behind many friends of his children that he considered to be his own sons and daughters.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. Friends are kindly invited to visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Pine Knoll Cemetery.
