SEBRING - Charles A. Frazier, 97, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the Copeland Oaks retirement community in Sebring.
Charles was born, in Warren, Dec. 10, 1915, a son of James and Ora Frazier, and brother of Robert and Howard.
He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1933 and married Virginia Dunstan in 1939.
After high school, Charles completed his machinist apprenticeship at Federal Machine in Warren. He soon became a foreman and lead instructor for the apprenticeship program.
After 40 years of service, Charles retired in 1976 as general supervisor of machining operations at Wean United in Austintown.
He was recognized as a master craftsman in the highly regarded machine trades in the Mahoning Valley. In 1977, Charles was hired again by R.J. Wean as a consultant for Wean acquisition in Monterrey, Mexico. After two years in Mexico, Charles and Virginia spent the next 25 years traveling throughout the North American continent. Riding their motor home from Nova Scotia to the Florida Keys was a routine event.
Charles was an outdoorsman who loved the water. He bought his first canoe in the 1950s and continued to sail and power boat in Ohio and Canada for the rest of his life. Fishing on ice, from shore or in his boat, was his passion. He never traveled without his fishing equipment. Fishing for salmon in Alaska was the highlight of his memories.
Charles was also an avid gardener. Raising fresh vegetables and blueberries to provide a healthy diet for his family was a high priority. He supported many local charities and was honored by Mobile Meals of Warren for 25 years of service.
He will be missed by his dog, Max, who held a special place in his heart.
Charles is survived by his wife of 73 years, Virginia; daughter, Marilyn Sue Kerr of Minerva; four sons, James (Shirley) of Braceville, Thomas (Andree) of Roxbury, Vt., David (Chris) of Auburn and Mark (Jeannie Hodge) of Girard; seven grandchildren, Tim (Kenda) Frazier, Joy (Bob) Angelo, Tolliver (Sabrina) Frazier, Josh (Lisa) Frazier, Jacqueline Frazier, Chelsea Frazier (Sam) Holt and Matthew Frazier; 10 great-grandchildren, Kriscinda, Josslyn, Caitlyn, Joseph, Samuel, Holly, Dan, Tolliver, Christopher and Sophia; his four stepgrandchildren, Denise Gorman, Alan (Debb) Kerr, Diane Brophy and Justin (Shannon) Hodge; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Collin, Jessica, Alaina, Emily, Steven, Michael, Mia and Mileena.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. June 22 at the First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Park Ave., Warren. Lunch will follow the service.
