The Ohio Senate's Workforce and Economic Development committee will meet in Austintown on Thursday to discuss issues surrounding the planned Hollywood Slots at Mahoning Valley Race Course.
State Sen. Joe Schiavoni, D-Canfield, a committee member, said the hearing is being held for local officials, labor leaders, business owners and experts in economic development to give testimony on the benefits of the racino and on the consequences of more construction delays.
Representatives from the Ohio Racing Commission, the Governor's Office and Penn National Gaming have been invited to attend, too.
The hearing will be 10 a.m. at the Austintown Township Hall, 82 Ohltown Road.
Penn National and the state racing commission have been haggling over seats at the facility, and new requirements could delay construction by four to six months if existing architectural plans are unable to accommodate the added seating, according to a Penn National official.
