WARREN - Congressman Timothy J. Ryan says he won't make a 2014 bid for Ohio governor.
In emailed statement from his campaign Friday, Ryan, D-Niles, says he thinks he'll be able to do more for the area, state and the country by staying in the U.S. House, rather than running for governor.
The five-term Democrat won his sixth in a row in November 2012, and a month later, regained a spot on the influential House Appropriations Committee, an appointment he said then would influence his decision to run for governor.
Ryan's announcement comes four days after Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald announced he was forming an explor-atory committee for a run against Republican Ohio Gov. John Kasich. The move allows FitzGerald to raise money without officially declaring his candidacy.
Others rumored to be in play to go after the Democrat nomination next year are Richard Cordray, the former treasurer and attorney general in Ohio who now runs the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and former congresswoman Betty Sutton.
The most recent poll shows that Kasich would defeat all four.
