BROOKFIELD - Robert D. Blankenship, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at his home.
He was born Oct. 31, 1942, in Isaban, W.Va., the son of the late Alfred and Dora Witt Blankenship.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Robert made a career out of the military. He retired from the Army after more than 20 years of service and served during the Vietnam War. He was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne.

Robert was a member of the VFW Post 1090 in Warren and the AMVETS Post 290 in Vienna.
He will be dearly missed by his two daughters, Stella B. (Donald) Blankenship of Fayetteville, N.C., and Cindy K. Blankenship of Raleigh, N.C.; three grandchildren, Donald Ray Blankenship III, Jeremy Lane Blankenship and Jennifer Ryan Schwitzgebel; and four great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Isabella, Amelia and Merrick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.
Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. today at the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home.
The Rev. James F. Baer will officiate a graveside funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, where Robert will be laid to rest. Full military honors will be observed there.
