West Branch leads after first day of EOWL

CANFIELD - West Branch holds a small advantage over Howland and Canfield after the first day of the Eastern Ohio Wrestling League tournament.

West Branch leads the two-day tournament with 92 points, with Howland in second at 86 and Canfield third with 82. Wrestling continues today at 9:30 a.m.

The Warriors advanced seven wrestlers in today's semifinals, which start at approximately 11 a.m. Howland also had seven wrestlers move on, and Canfield had six.

The only No. 1-seeded wrestler to lose was West Branch's Tyler Pidgeon. James Cupan of Girard defeated him, 3-2, in the second round.

The EOWL will induct seven wrestlers and one coach into its hall of fame tonight. Those being enshrined are: Eric Chine (Austintown Fitch), Klynt Matson (Canfield), Jason Neapolitan (Boardman), Jerry Pasquale (Boardman, coach), Nick Dierkes (Jackson-Milton), Fred Luchette (Brookfield), Rich Luchette (Brookfield), Max Pierce (Poland).
