Routine drug sweeps at several local schools on Friday netted favorable results, officials reported.

Warren Township police Lt. Don Bishop said a team of police, accompanied by K9 units, checked buildings at LaBrae, Niles and Champion school districts.

"And we didn't find anything," Bishop said. "That's a really, really good thing."

Bishop confirmed that authorities started the sweeps at LaBrae at 8 a.m. and moved to Champion and Niles. He said the law enforcement team spent about an hour at each building.

"We checked locker rooms, went through the buildings," Bishop said.

Officials, including Niles Superintendent Frank Danso, explained that the drug sweeps have become routine. He said Friday's sweep of Niles McKinley High School was part of the district's normal security routine. He confirmed no drugs were found at Niles.

Bishop said authorities try to visit the schools at least once a year. On Friday, officers were accompanied by three dogs.

"It's good to do these things," Bishop said. "It's even better when you don't find anything. It's something we started and now we have several police departments and local schools working together."
