RAVENNA - Walter R. Marik, 88, formerly of Palmyra, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013.
Walter lived at the Gardens of Western Reserve for the past 18 months, where he received outstanding love and care.
He was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Bellaire, a son of the late Louis and Lillian Koranek Marik.
Walter was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was active in many civic organizations, including the Order of Eastern Star Palmy Chapter, Deerfield American Legion, and was a 60-year member of the Charity Masonic Lodge in Deerfield.
Walter was a hardworking person. He was always busy with the family farm in Palmyra and retired from the General Motors Lordstown plant after 20 years of service.
In 1987, Walter and his wife, Janet, moved to Lehigh Acres, Fla. While there, Walter became a member of the First Christian Church and was active in the UAW's retiree program. Walter also utilized his handyman skills around his condo association.
Surviving family members include his children, Becky (Mike) Sterling, Deborah Marik and Bob (Linda) Marik; as well as his six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; daughter, Susan; brother, Louis; and sister, Mildred.
Cremation has taken place, and friends will be received from 2 p.m. until time of the 3 p.m. memorial service Saturday at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna.
