NILES - Archie R. Macali Jr., 77, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, in the Cleveland Clinic due to complications from surgery.
He was the beloved son of Rose Scarnecchia and Archie Macali. Raised in Niles, he graduated from Niles McKinley High School Class of 1953 and went on to serve two years in the Navy.
As one of the area's most established meat cutters, along with his wife, he opened Maple Avenue Market and then with their family began JRS Catering that would grow as one of the most prominent catering companies in the area, serving Candlelight Knolls for 27 years.

He loved to dance and was an avid golfer with his grandson and buddies on Sundays. You could always hear him singing "New York, New York," and would see his infectious smile every day.
Archie was very gracious, always giving back to charities, but he always made time for his family and close group of friends that would meet up every month. He truly loved people and loved life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Clara Sanfrey, Lola DeMathews and Vera Macali; and nephew, Raymond Senfrey.
He is survived by his wife, Joann; his three children, John Macali, Rosanne (Harry) Macali Pissini; and Stephen (Sandy) Macali. Archie has one grandson, Stephen Macali; one granddaughter, Jessica Pissini; and many nieces and nephews in the area and out of town.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road N.E., Warren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, officiated by the Rev. Thomas Eisweirth.
Burial will follow at Niles City Cemetery.
