WARREN - Police are investigating a shooting that left a local man wounded early Sunday morning.
Police said they responded to the area of 1984 Hazelwood Ave. S.E. just after midnight in reference to a disturbance with shots being fired.
However, when officers arrived, they received word that that the victim, Gabriel Gahdan Lofton II, 24, 3182 Merriweather St. N.W., had arrived at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown with a wound to the torso, according to reports. Warren police Detective Michael Currington said on Monday that he did not know the seriousness of Lofton's condition but that he hoped to talk to him by the end of the day.
Initially, reports indicated that several people witnessed a disturbance in the area at the time of the shooting and that it may have resulted from a fight. However, Currington said he has not yet been able to confirm that.
Currington said police had no suspects in the shooting and do not believe another incident in that same area of the city later that morning was related to the shooting.
Police were called back to the Hazelwood Avenue S.E. area just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday in reference to numerous disturbances. After a foot pursuit, police arrested Derrell D. Douglas, 33, 1608 Market St., Youngstown. Police charged him with disorderly conduct / intoxicated, obstructing official business and marijuana possession.
He was arraigned Monday and released from the Trumbull County Jail after posting $1,000 bail.
