Warren McKinney Jr. 1946-2013

NILES - Warren J. McKinney Jr., 66, 701 Summit Ave., died at 1:50 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Cleveland Veterans Administration Medical Center, Wade Park Campus, Cleveland, following an extended illness.

He was born Oct. 4, 1946, in Warren, the son of Warren Julius and Vivian Pierson McKinney Sr.

Mr. McKinney retired from Copperweld Steel as a millwright after 36 years. He retired in 2001, when Copperweld closed.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969, and was honorably discharged as an HM3 (medical assistant), and received the Defense Service Medal.

He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Warren.

Survivors include his wife, Carol A. Parks McKinney of Niles, whom he married Nov. 13, 1998; his mother, Vivian McKinney of Youngstown; his daughters, Warrie and Kim McKinney, both of Warren; a son, Warren Julius McKinney III of Akron; a sister, Gloria Blakely McKinney, also of Warren; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Warren J. McKinney Sr., and his first wife, Toni Dorsey McKinney, whom he married Feb. 6, 1966.

Services will be at noon Friday at the Friendship Baptist Church, where friends may call one hour before service. The family also will receive friends at the home of his sister, Gloria McKinney, 1613 Jackson St., Warren.

He will be laid to rest in Pine Knoll Cemetery.

His daughter Warrie McKinney would like to extend her love and thanks for all those who sent condolences.
