Stacie Mickens, assistant professor of horn at Dana School of Music, will be joined by Adam Unsworth, associate professor of horn at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, for a workshop and concert at Youngstown State University.
The horn workshop for high school and college French horn players will run from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Room 2326 of Bliss Hall. Participation is free and open to the public and geared toward musicians of all levels. Students should bring their own instruments but do not need to bring sheet music.
Areas to be explored during the clinic include performance, a master class, jazz workshop and horn choir. More information about the horn clinic may be found by emailing Dr. Stacie Mickens at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Mickens and Unsworth will give a duo horn recital, accompanied by pianist Diane Yazvac, at 8 p.m. Monday in Bliss Recital Hall. The concert will include works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Clearfield, Nurock, and Rosetti.
Mickens joined the Dana School of Music faculty in the fall of 2012 after completing her doctorate at the University of Michigan. She previously taught at Luther College and Winona State University, and is a member of the Akron and Youngstown symphonies. Unsworth, a former member of the Philadelphia Orchestra, has appeared as a recitalist and clinician at many universities throughout the United States, and he has performed repeated solo and chamber concerts at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall.
Admission to the recital is free. For more information, call the Dana School of Music at 330-941-3636.
