Jobless numbers continue decline

WARREN - Local unemployment numbers continued to drop, including in Trumbull County, where jobless rates dipped a half percentage point from last year at this time.

Trumbull County's unemployment rate reached 7.7 percent in November, according to numbers released Friday by the state Department of Job and Family Services. Unemployment rates were 8.2 percent this time last year in the county. Jobless numbers were 7.8 percent in October. The civilian workforce also increased by more than 1,000 workers in November over last year. The number of employed in Trumbull County also increased by more than 1,000 people in November versus the previous month.

Mahoning figures also dropped significantly to 6.9 percent from 8.2 percent a year ago. In October, Mahoning reported 6.6 percent.

Statewide, unemployment inched downward to 6.8 percent, down slightly from 6.9 percent in October and down significantly from the 8.1 percent rate a year ago, the state Department of Job and Family Services said Friday. The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in November was 391,000, down from 396,000 in October.

Ohio's unemployment rate has remained below the national rate, which was reported at 7.7 percent in November, also a decline from 8.7 percent a year ago.

Warren jobless numbers released Friday held steady at 9 percent, the same as October. Jobless numbers were 9.4 percent in November 2011. Youngstown jobless rates also held steady at 8.6 percent, down from 10.5 percent in November 2011.
