YOUNGSTOWN - A third person is entering the Democratic primary to be the city's next mayor.
City Council President Jameal Tito Brown said Monday he will be holding a press conference Thursday to announce his bid for the seat.
Current Mayor Charles Sammarone also said Monday he is reconsidering previous plans to not run for re-election.
Brown currently works for the Mahoning County Treasurer's Office and first served as 3rd Ward councilman before becoming council president last year when Sammarone was elevated from that post to take the place of Jay Williams. Williams resigned for a job in the administration of President Obama.
Previously announcing their intention to run are Mahoning County Commissioner and former Law Director John McNally IV, and West Side resident Matthew Smith.
McNally did not run for re-election for his commissioner seat this year. His place is being filled by Austintown Trustee David Ditzler.
Sammarone said he has received letters and requests from people asking him to reconsider. He said he will consult with his family over the holidays about his options and expects to make an announcement no later than the second week of January.
''I am reconsidering,'' Sammarone said.
Sammarone has served as mayor since September of 2011.
