LORDSTOWN - Ledgemont tied the game up with seconds left, then outscored Lordstown in overtime for this Northeastern Athletic Conference victory, 47-45.
The Red Devils led with 6 seconds remaining before the Redskins tied the game. This was after battling back after trailing 14-10 at the half.
Lordstown was paced by Jake Jones' 11 points. Preston Sutton added 10.
Ledgemont was led by Devin Rupinski's 11 points.
GRAND VALLEY 42, BADGER 40: ORWELL - Grand Valley trailed 25-22 through three quarters, but the Mustangs pulled ahead in the fourth.
Jake Vormelker led Grand Valley (1-1, 1-0) with 14 points. Gabe Kovats scored eight and Kyle Orgovan and Josh Kovats each put in seven.
Matt Kraml scored a game-high 25 for the Braves (0-2, 0-1).
BRISTOL 74, BLOOMFIELD 21: NORTH BLOOMFIELD - Bristol jumped to a 29-7 lead in the first quarter and cruised in this Northeastern Athletic Conference victory.
Chad Oliver led all scorers and Bristol with 26 points. Zak Dibell added 17 and Brandon Lee dropped in 11.
Bloomfield was led by Isaiah Noce's seven points.
MAPLEWOOD 60, MATHEWS 49: VIENNA - Mathews' third-quarter lull helped the Rockets win an Northeastern Athletic Conference, East Division road matchup.
Maplewood (2-2) outscored the Mustangs, 16-2, in the decisive third quarter. Luke Evan notched five of his team-high 15 points in the third. Kevin Jones added 13 for the Rockets.
Mathews (1-2), which led 30-26 at the half, cut the lead to seven with 5 minutes remaining before Maplewood pulled away. Aaron Suchanek led all scorers with 20, with 12 of those coming in the first half. The Mustangs travel to Brookfield on Tuesday.
CAMPBELL 64, HOWLAND 62: CAMPBELL - The Red Devils took a 55-43 lead through three quarters and held on to defeat Howland.
George Billiris and Edgar Toledo each had 13 points to lead Campbell (1-2). Daron Clinkscale and Charles Smith each had 11.
John-Mark Weisman led all players with 27 points for Howland (0-2). Arbie Murray added 11.
GIRARD 55, HUBBARD 50: GIRARD - Hubbard led by five at the half, but Girard battled back in the second half, leading the Indians to the victory.
Girard jumped out in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 21-13. From there, the Indians never trailed.
A big reason for the win was Korri Maynard's 23 points, 15 from 3-point range. Craig Randall added 12 as the Indians improve to 1-1 on the season.
Hubbard, which was paced by Aaron Loveless' 16 points, falls to 0-2.
BEAVER LOCAL 61, LAKEVIEW 50: CORTLAND - Beaver Local stayed undefeated by jumping on the Bulldogs in the second quarter of a non-conference showdown.
The Beavers (4-0) were up, 14-13, after the first quarter, but they outscored Lakeview, 18-6, in the second to take a commanding lead. Jared Liger paced Beaver Local with 16 points, including 10 in the first half. Troy Hudson contributed 15, and Brandon Setty finished with 10.
Lakeview (1-2) made it a six-point deficit in the third quarter, but the Beavers went on a run to put the game out of reach. Brandon Bensing scored a game-high 19 points and Jake Pishotti chipped in 10 for the Bulldogs, who host Niles on Tuesday.
CANFIELD 66, CHAMPION 50: CHAMPION - Canfield jumped out to an early 24-16 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
Marco Deldrenzo led the way for the Canfield with 17 points, Andrew Midgley chipped in with 12 points and Cole Trjyma added 10 points for the Cardinals.
Champion was led by Clay Hall, who scored 14, and Tyler Bishop poured in 13 - including three triples.
Canfield tries to continue its winning ways as it takes on West Branch at home on Tuesday.
Champion looks to rebound on Tuesday as the Golden Flashes go on the road to face Pymatuning Valley.
NILES 75, JEFFERSON 51: JEFFERSON - Niles made 11 3-pointers as the Red Dragons rolled past Jefferson.
Ray Russ led the way with 24 points, while Chris Parry had 19 and James Tate added 12 for Niles (2-1).
Lucas Hitchcock paced the Falcons (1-3) with 18 points and Troy Bloom scored 10.
AUSTINTOWN FITCH 46, NEWTON FALLS 39: NEWTON FALLS - A rough second quarter did in Newton Falls, as it fell to Fitch in a non-conference game.
The Tigers had the slim 16-14 lead after the first quarter, but were outscored 10-5 in the second. The Falcons led the rest of the way.
Newton Falls was led by Ozzie Hawkins' 13 points, followed by 12 points from Dale Kernen. Kernen added three assists. Newton Falls drops to 0-3.
Fitch was led by Jesse Drivers' 12 points.
MINERAL RIDGE 64, CRESTVIEW 47: MINERAL RIDGE - Zac Hagy scored 22 points and Nathan Palmer added 13 as Mineral Ridge got its first conference victory over Crestview.
The Rebels had the 19-14 edge after the first quarter, but the Rams came back and outscored them 21-5 in the second quarter. Hagy scored 11 of his 22 points in the second.
Mineral Ridge is now 2-1, 1-0 in the Inter Tri-County League, Upper Tier.
McDONALD 73, SOUTHERN 55: McDONALD - The Blue Devils led by 14 points at halftime and cruised to remain undefeated.
Matt Seitz led McDonald (3-0, 1-0) with 20 points and Stephen Politano put in 18.
Jared Shilot topped Southern (2-1, 0-1) with 18 points and Kyler Woodward scored 14.
CARDINAL?MOONEY 55, EAST 53: YOUNGSTOWN - Cardinal Mooney outscored East 17-11 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.
Doug Caputo led all players with 25 points for the Cardinals (1-0). Joe Cunningham added 10.
Terrell McClain and Deontay Scott each scored 14 points for East (2-1).
Crestview falls to 1-2 (0-1).
UNIONTOWN LAKE 50, BOARDMAN 46: BOARDMAN -Boardman led 28-20 at the half, but Uniontown Lake outscored Boardman 25-15 in the fourth quarter to come out on top.
Vaudrin led the Blue Streaks with 20 points while Spottleson added 13 points.
Jamar Steverson was the leading scorer for Boardman with 13, while Sam Mathey contributed 10 points for the Spartans.
WINDHAM 63, WOODRIDGE 39: WINDHAM - Matt Knight led Windham with 15 points as the Bombers routed Woodridge.
Parker Rickey put in 13 and Cameron Pozsgai scored 11 for Windham (3-0, 1-0).
Seam McCoy, Anthony Mong, Christian Owens and Nelson Perry each had seven points to lead Woodridge.
HOPE?CLASSIC?TODAY IN?STRUTHERS: The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley will present the "Hope Classic: High School Basketball Showcase" today at the Struthers Field House. The inaugural event will feature 10 noteworthy scholastic teams (six boys and four girls) from the area, state and beyond in a one-day event to raise money for chronically and/or terminally ill children.
Magnificat and Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin start the tournament at 2 p.m. Following that contest, the boys team from ND-CL will be taking on Struthers. Game three sends it back to the girls, with Canton Central Catholic taking on Struthers. The fourth game is the local feature of the night, pitting Ursuline and LaBrae. Ending the night is the showcase game, with Seton Academy (Ill.) travelling to take on Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary.
Each game starts 15 minutes after the completion of the game before.
Ticket are $17 for floor seats and $8 for general admission. One ticket secures admission for all five games. There will be a free shuttle service, courtesy of Transit Service transporting fans to and from designated locations in and around the field house.
Also, one fan will be selected to participate for the "HausAutoGroup.com $10,000 Cash Prize Miracle Half-Court Shot." The shot will take place at half-time of the final game. More information about the event can be found at www.hopemv.org.
