WARREN - Songs of good cheer sung by Warren students filled the air, delighting parents and teachers alike.
The voices of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders mixed with wintery notes of holiday classics during Thursday's Winter Choir Concert.
The students planned out the songs and rotations for the evening's performance, with a little help from their choir director, Mackenzie Pinto.

"This takes a lot of hard work," Pinto said, addressing the audience between songs which she accompanied on the piano. "Music is important ... singing is important." Involvement in the choir gives students a much-needed break from everyday stresses, she said.
Students introduced each song with a bit of trivia, such as the Ukranian origin of "Carol of the Bells" and the first performance of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" having been sung by Judy Garland in the 1944 musical "Meet Me in St. Louis."
"Sleigh Ride" was described as American as apple pie, and other holiday favorites such as "Baby it's Cold Outside," "Let it Snow" and "Angels We Have Heard on High" also were performed, some with a little twist.

The audience was invited to participate and the evening was closed with a medley of Christmas classics.
"I love to sing Christmas carols," Pinto said, "and I know that these kids do, as well."
