BENEFIT TO HELP WOMAN: A benefit to help cancer patient Brenda Messenger Fisher will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Southington Local Schools. The event includes 50-50 raffle, Chinese auction and dinner sponsored by Project Be Somebody. Fisher was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of bone cancer. She has undergone months of radiation and chemotherapy and is need of bone marrow. Funds raised from the benefit will help with medical expenses. Donations may also be made at any Chase Bank for the Brenda Fisher Fund.
UNIFORM AND SHOE SALE SET: The auxiliary of St. Joseph Health Center will hold a uniform and shoe sale from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday in Lobby B of the hospital.
COMEDY PART OF LIBRARY EVENT: A Very Comedy Christmas will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Hubbard Public Library, 436 W. Liberty St. Chris Yambar will be there for the program. Proceeds for the benefit the Community Senior Citizen Van.
BATTERIES FOR SMOKE DETECTORS: The Champion Township Fire Department in conjunction with Energizer Batteries is providing free 9-volt batteries for township residents. This is the ninth year the fire department has taken part in Change your Batteries program.
KIDS' CREW PLAN TWO EVENTS: The Kids' Crew of Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley is hosting A Children's Holiday tree lighting and fourth anniversary celebration from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Building C on the hospital's Beeghly Campus, 6505 Market St., Boardman. The celebration will feature cocoa, cookies and carols and the lighting of the holiday tree at 6 p.m. In addition to a visit from Santa Claus, children's activities will include face painting, crafts, cookie and ornament decorating. The event is free to the public.
ROCKET EVENT SET: OH WOW! Roger and Gloria Jones Children's Center for Science and Technology will hold a "Make Your Own Rocket" class for grades five to eight from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. today and 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday for grades kindergarten to fourth. Cost is $2 for members and $10 for non-members. Pre-registration requested by calling 330-744-5914.
AUCTION TO BENEFIT MISSION: A quarter's auction fundraiser to benefit the Mahoning Valley Rescue Mission will be held at 6 p.m. today at St. Patrick's Parish Hall, Main Street, Hubbard. Each paddle raised is 25 cents. Auction items include gift certificates for limousine service and local restaurants, handmade candles and fine graphic art prints. Tickets are $10 each at 330-398-9095. Guests are encouraged to bring a canned good for an extra raffle ticket. All sales will be donated to the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.
