MECCA - Harlan Davis Free, 76, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland.
He was born March 21, 1936, in Bloomfield, the son of Davis H. and Marian Armstrong Free.
A longtime resident of Mecca, Mr. Free was formerly of Kinsman. He was a 1954 graduate of Kinsman High School and served in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated dairy farms in Kinsman for many years. He retired from Bristol schools as a custodian. Mr. Free enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting, fishing and he loved his dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Mavis L. Phillips, whom he married Nov. 23, 1954; his three daughters, Loraine M. (Richard) Watt of Andover, Julie A. Unangst of Orangeville and Beverly A. (Bill) Hunkus of Orangeville; one sister, Leta Krieg of Colebrook; six grandchildren, Harley McElrath, Michael (Kasey) Dales, Stephen Unangst, Jacob Unangst, Davis Hunkus and Dillon Hunkus; and four great-grandchildren, December McElrath, Blake Dales, Natalie and Landon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Dorothy Krafcic and Arlene Hall.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Kinsman Fire Hall.
