HARTFORD HOSTS TREE LIGHTING: The Hartford Township Park Committee will hold the third annual "Let There be Lights" Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Sunday at the township square. The event will include decorating of the tree with donated holiday decorations to be placed on the community tree, caroling and the countdown to the tree lighting by Hartford Apple Festival Queen, Emily DeScenna. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served.
The event will also serve as a food drive, with donations of nonperishable food and items to be given to the Hartford Community Church Food Ministry.
TRIM A TREE EVENT TAKES SIGNUPS: Girl Scout Troop 80159 will host a Trim-a-Tree Jubilee from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 7 at the North Road Intermediate School gymnasium. Troops will decorate table top trees to be donated to area nursing homes. Troops provide their own trees and ornaments. There will also be a dinner, crafts, and dance with a DJ.
Cost is $8 person and includes a patch for Scouts. Reservations are needed by Monday when there is a Service Unit meeting. For information, call 330-727-8625 or email najamom@aol.com. Scouts who bring a new or gently used children's book for the Bronze Award Children's Book Drive will receive a treat.
FIRE ASSOCIATION HOLDS AUCTION: The Johnston Township Fire Association will hold a Christmas auction at 2 p.m. Sunday at the fire department, 4313 Greenville Road. The event will include a raffle. Proceeds will help the fire department.
BIRDFEEDER WORKSHOPS SET: The Friends of the Greenhouse Consortium will hold a pine cone birdfeeder workshop at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Dec. 8 and 15 at the Packard Park Greenhouse, Mahoning Avenue, Warren. The event is free for children. For reservations, call Pat at 330-372-889 or 330-233-5839.
MUSEUM HOLDS HOLIDAY DISPLAY: The Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave., Youngstown, has been decorated for the holidays with the theme "Memories of Christmas Park." The seven rooms of the museum have vintage decorations including ornaments, lights, trees, toys and trains. The display includes many pieces of the historical society's collections and items from the private collection.
PET BLESSING SET: A pet blessing will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Animal Charity, 4140 Market St., Youngstown. Pastor Jim Brandis, Shepherd of the Valley Corporate chaplain, will conduct the blessing.
The public is welcome to participate and bring their pets.
