Festival of Trees beings Friday

FESTIVAL OF TREES KICKS OFF: Humility of Mary Health Partners annual Festival of Trees will begin Friday and be held through Dec. 7. A total of 86 trees decorated by hospital staff will be available for raffle at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, St. Joseph Health Center in Warren and St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Proceeds from the St. Elizabeth event go to the REACH Fund, which helps employees when facing a crisis. St. Joseph's proceeds benefit the St. Joseph Mission Fund. And proceeds from St. Elizabeth Boardman will go to a mission closet for patients and families who may need clothing or other supplies while at the hospital and the Helping Hands of Boardman Fund.

Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Monday to Dec. 6, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 7 a.m. to noon Dec. 7. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Winning tickets will be pulled at noon Dec. 7, with tree pickup that day from 2 to 5 p.m.

HOLIDAY EVENT SET IN HUBBARD: The Hubbard Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a "Holidays in Hubbard" from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, with a Christmas walk and trolley ride, which are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from the McConnell Plaza to the railroad tracks and back.

SANTA TO ARRIVE IN GIRARD: Santa Claus will visit with children in the Girard city gymnasium, West Main Street, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The event is being sponsored by the Girard Junior Women.

SHELTER KICKS OFF PROGRAM: Help Hotline will be kicking off its cold weather emergency shelter program on Friday with the fifth annual homeless walk at 9 a.m. beginning at the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen, 208 W. Front St. Discussion of the program will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.

SIGN UP FOR TOYS: The Emmanuel Community Center in Girard will distribute Christmas gifts for children from birth to age 15 on Dec. 18. Families in the Girard area who are registered at the center and in need of assistance may call the center to sign up by Tuesday at 330-545-4301. Those donating gifts must do so by Dec. 12.
