WARREN - The Trumbull County YMCA has seen many improvements throughout the year including facility enhancements to racquetball room, gymnasium and cycling room.
Rich Denamen, interim director at the YMCA, said a major project this year was the ''Window of Opportunity'' campaign, where $100,000 worth of improvements was done including 30 new windows and frames on both the first and second floor.
Denamen said windows were sponsored for $250 per window by members, friends and local businesses. Denamen said because of donations from the local manufacturer, Vista Windows and the installer, Clear Choice Windows, total cost to the YWCA was $8,680.
Also, new flooring was installed in the upstairs main gymnasium and the all-purpose room in the basement that is used for cycling, the Silver Sneakers program and Zumba classes.
Both the main gym floor and the smaller gym floor were resurfaced from the Youngstown Foundation grant and contributions from Berk Paper and Supply.
Denamen said 10 to 15 volunteers installed the all-purpose room's flooring in about five hours. Cost for the project was $11,000, he said.
Work was done as well on the racquetball court, which was painted and a refurbished floor.
Denamen said the racquetball court opened Monday, and the first game was played by Jim Herron and Hugh Anderson.
"It is appropriate that they have the first game on that court. Thanks to their efforts we have a quality racquetball court," he said.
Herron made the first major contribution to the project and Anderson ran the fundraising campaign. Refurbishing cost $5,000.
In addition, $10,000 was used for the large and small gymnasium.
Other work included roof repairs at $3,000, and foundation seal and retuck at $1,400.
Denamen said the final project of the year is eight to 10 new pieces of equipment for the wellness center.
''With all that was done this year, the YMCA has had more than $100,000 in improvements,'' he said.
