Leshnack powers Liberty to opening win

WARREN - Leah Leshnack scored a game-high 25 points to lead Liberty past John F. Kennedy 53-34 Friday night in the opener for both teams.

Kim Staples had 14 points, while Rachel Crum added 12 for Liberty (1-0).

Calli Kowach paced Kennedy (0-1) with 13 points, while Angelene Coates added 11.

Eagles' returning starter Laurencia Lee is still out with a concussion she suffered during a scrimmage.

GIRARD 61, McDONALD 28: GIRARD - The Indians only led 12-11 through the first quarter, but Girard outscored McDonald 49-17 the rest of the way.

Miranda Boyle and Bree Bishop each had 15 points to lead Girard, while Haley Spalla added eight and Alasjia Dykes and Lindsay Durkin each had seven.

Tory Ross scored 12 of 28 points for the Blue Devils.
