Maxine M. Mears, 1920-2012

CORTLAND - Maxine M. Mears, 92, died at 3:43 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at the Lake Vista Nursing Home.

She was born July 10, 1920, in Warren, the daughter of Neil and Itha Laughrey Morton.

A 1938 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, she attended Youngstown University. She retired in 1982 as a secretary for the Diocese of Youngstown, working at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, St. Stephen Church and St. William Church. She was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Church and a former member of St. Stephen Church and the Niles Catholic Women's Club. She was an avid sewer and cherished the time spent doing activities with her grandchildren.

Maxine is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Thomas) Haas of Cincinnati; a son, Larry (Linda) Mears of Cortland; six grandchildren, Susan (Michael) Bush, Michael (Lisa) Haas, Patricia (Chris) Minick, Michael (Christine) Mears, Michelle Gerst and Kathleen (James) Trunick; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Harlyn Morton.

The Service of Christian Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Carl Kish will officiate. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Vista Memorial Fund.
