A new community of faith has started at the Churchill United Methodist Church as a way to focus on people of all ages.

Jared Woodard, pastor of Project 614, said Project 614 is a faith ''birthed'' from Churchill United Methodist Church, which is the mother church.

Project 614 was launched in October and holds worship service at 6:14 p.m. on Sundays at the church.

''We want to create a service and new church that is focused on reaching young adults and others. We want to bring a service that is contemporary and provide a way to think outside the box and do things differently as we reach people,'' Woodard said.

He said the name came from Romans 6:14, ''For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.''

Woodard said the verse says grace should be extended to all people.

Woodard said there has been worship for about a year at the church before the official launch.

A goal is to share the building with Churchill United and work together in providing ministry.

Woodard, who is on the staff at Churchill United as the 614 pastor, said plans are for small group gatherings in addition to worship service.

He said he will work with David Gilbert, the church's senior pastor at Churchill United.

''We are trying to work together to hit every area of life and offering something that everyone can grasp,'' he said.

Woodard said a fundraising effort to donate items as part of Operation Adriel which will provide holiday gifts for children who are in adoption homes. Woodard said he and his wife recently adopted a son.

Woodard said there is a Connect group for people who want to talk about such as issues as doubt, hypocrisy and money.
