WARREN - Enrichment activities along with tutoring in schoolwork are provided to Warren city school children who take part in the afterschool program offered onsite at the YWCA of Warren, 375 N. Park Ave.
Monique Franklin, youth program director at the YWCA, said students come to the YWCA after school, while those enrolled at the Lincoln K-8 After School will remain at that site from 2:30 to 6 p.m.
In addition to the daily afterschool program, plans are to offer to fun days before Christmas open to children of all districts. Those days have been set for Dec. 20 and 21 when several school districts will begin their winter Christmas break. There will be activities for children from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Franklin said the afterschool program, which will run through the school year, includes indoor and outdoor activities, arts and crafts, homework assistance and a snack.
She said the program is for students kindergarten to sixth grade. She said there is morning child care offered at the Lincoln K-8 School site.
''Students coming to the YWCA get to use the gym, play games, bring challenge games and get help and tutoring from the child care staff,'' Franklin said.
Jessica Allen said she likes receiving help with her homework and getting to participate in different activities. Nathan McHan said the "funnest" part of the program is getting to spend time with others playing games and learning.
Franklin said when the weather gets warmer, they will go to outside and to the nearby parks.
