Two injured in crash that closed road
BAZETTA - Two people were transported to a local hospital Monday morning after a crash at the intersection of state routes 5 and 305.
Police said Gary Gardener, 49, of Cortland, a passenger in his wife's car, was treated at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, and released.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 67-year-old Cortland woman, was also taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital to be treated for what police described as nonlife threatening injuries. Police did not disclose the woman's name and did not know late Monday whether she had been released from the hospital.
According to reports, both vehicles were traveling south when one rear-ended the other as it stopped for the red light. Additional details were not yet released.
The crash, which was reported around 7:20 a.m., had traffic closed in all directions for about an hour.
Fire victim critical, wife out of hospital
LEAVITTSBURG - A man trapped in a fire at his North Leavitt Road home on Thursday remained in critical condition at a Cleveland hospital this morning.
Louis Kawecki and his wife, Rita, both 60, were flown to Metro Health after a fire broke out at their house last Thursday, destroying the structure.
Rita Kawecki has been released from Metro Health, a hospital spokeswoman said today. However, there had been no change in Louis Kawecki's condition as of Monday.
Officials said they believe the man had tried to get out of the house, at some point calling 911 from a cell phone, before collapsing. Firefighters found him unconscious near the front door.
Two children at the house at the time were taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital but were later released.
The state fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.
Propane truck rolls over in Mahoning
BERLIN CENTER - The driver of a propane truck was injured when the vehicle rolled over in North Jackson between Duck Creek and County Line roads on Monday.
Officials said the tanker was traveling northbound on Duck Creek Road when it went off the right side and flipped on its side just after 10 a.m.
Officials closed a portion of Duck Creek Road; however, the scene was cleared and the road was reopened by 3 p.m.
Although the driver was transported to Trumbull Memorial Hospital, officials said they do not believe his injuries are serious. An update on his condition was not available late Monday.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating.
Man injured during crash in Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN - City police are investigating a Monday evening traffic accident on Youngstown's South Side that sent a man to the hospital.
A man was reported hit by a car at the intersection of Indianola Avenue and Glenwood Avenue just after 6 p.m. The driver told police the man stepped out in front of his car, according to WYTV 33 News.
Police are investigating. The man's name and condition had not yet been released.
