Howland Township Trustee Rick Clark was recently honored by the Ohio Environmental Council with the 2012 Conservation Achievement Award.
According to the ecological group, Clark was given the award for his exceptional leadership in promoting sustainable practices and a healthy community in Howland.
Clark has worked successfully to reduce energy consumption and toxic emission within the township while encouraging recycling, preserving green space, creating greenways and promoting public health and safety.
The award will be presented Nov. 10 at the groups' Green Gala awards dinner at the Sheraton Columbus Hotel in Columbus.
Clark was first elected as Township Trustee in 1994.
Additional 2012 Environmental Award winners include former Gov. Bob Taft for lifetime achievement; State Rep. Robert Hagan of Youngstown and State Sen. Frank LaRose of Akron, public servant awards; Richard Moseley, retired chief of the Ohio Division of Natural Areas and Preserves, conservation achievement; Teresa Peters of Granville, environmental watchdog; and the city of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Zoo, green jobs and innovation.
