Descendent of Alden to speak

SOCIETY TO HOST SPEAKER: The Kinsman Historical Society will have Ret. Lt. Col Virginia Logan, a descendant of John Alden, as guest speaker at 7:30 p.m. today at the Kinsman Presbyterian Church. Alden was said to be the first person to set foot on Plymouth Rock in 1620. The event is free to the public.

LIBRARY HOSTS PROGRAM: Bristol Public Library is marking its 100th anniversary celebration with a program, ''White House Christmas Traditions'' at 6:30 p.m. today. The program is how holiday traditions have evolved at the White House. Presidential history buff Jeri Diehl Cusack will share tales of the First Families' unique choices of greeting cards and staff gifts, how Christmas celebrations have been impacted by times of war, and the effect of ever-changing technology. Registration is required by calling the circulation desk at 330-889-3651.

LIBRARY HOSTS PRESIDENT GARFIELD: The Newton Falls Public Library, 204 S. Canal St., will have Wayne Enders portraying 20th U.S. President James A. Garfield at 1:30 pm. Saturday.

RESERVATIONS NEEDED FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER: The Warren Southwest Neighborhood Association will host a community Thanksgiving dinner from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the New Freedom Missionary Baptist Church, 1590 Tod Ave. S.W. Reservations are needed by calling 330-301-8782 or 330-766-9060.

CRAFT SHOW PLANNED: Edison Place, 36 W. Church St., Niles, will hold a craft sale featuring handmade items from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be door prizes.

ASSOCIATION COLLECTING ITEMS: Lordstown Teachers' Association will hold a canned food drive through Friday with items to be brought to the high school or elementary school. All donations will benefit local Lordstown families in need during the holiday season. A goal is to collect 700 cans.

RETIREES SET MEETING: Packard Electric and Delphi Packard retirees will meet at 10:30 a.m. today at Local 717's Union Hall, Commerce Park, 2950 Sferra Ave. Those attending are asked to bring a labeled covered dish. A collection will be taken for Betty's Angels.

FOOD TO BE DISTRIBUTED: Deliverance Temple Church, 1849 West Ave. N.W., Warren, will hold a food distribution at 3 p.m. Thursday with those needing items asked to bring photo identification and utility bill.

SOUP KITCHEN TO BE OPEN: New Jerusalem Fellowship, 2555 Palmyra Road, Warren, will hold a soup kitchen from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday. The ministry is open to the community.

COAT GIVEAWAY PLANNED: The Salvation Army, Mahoning County, is planning a coat giveaway "Project Warm" for children age 3 to 14. Pre-registration is required from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Thursday. Documentation is needed and must include photo identification, proof of residency and proof of custody.
