DEAR EDITOR:
I have my beliefs about this election that up until now I have kept quiet about. Friends have sent me many e-mails about the Republican party. I am a Democrat and will be a Democrat until I die. There is no way I would vote Republican because of the way they scare me when they want to do away with programs that help the poor. They want to privatize Social Security. That scares me. I am not scared about who is or isnt President Obamas friends or whether he is actually a citizen. This all humbug.
President Obama came into office with a mess that was created under George Bush's administration. When President Obama got into office the Republicans stopped anything he tried to do. Some people I know said that black people would take over the country if Obama would be elected. Imagine how stupid this thinking is. I remember when John Kennedy, a Catholic, was running that people thought the Pope would run this country if Kennedy won. How stupid is that?
My son, Greg and I were talking politics via Skype since he is in Colorado. He asked me if I knew who Todd Akin was and I didn't. Greg pointed out that Todd Akin is a Republican Senator from Missouri and had made comments about abortion. I am stating what this supposedly learned man made regarding abortion. He said, ''women possess magical mechanisims for preventing conception when they have been attacked. If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.''There's more and you can find this information by putting Todds name in your Search Engine.
Then there is Republican Sen. Richard Mourdock from Indiana who says, that pregnancy resulting from rape can be something God intended to happen even if life begins in that horrible situation.I am not contemplating abortion and never would, but I take exception to people who make it their business of telling others how to choose what they want to do.
We all have a living will, or should have. This will dictate to others what we choose to have done at the end of our life. No one can tell each of us what we should or should not do. The same should be for a woman choosing or not choosing abortion.
I still maintain that if a woman has a baby she doesn't want, she will ultimately abuse that child. Is it better to get an abortion or have the child and abuse it? Men, especially, should not be entered into the equation about a woman's body. They don't have a clue.
Are we electing people that have an ounce of brains or it's just we really don't know the policies of these people we elect.
If you want my vote on proposed amendments to the constitution, you need to make it clear so that this 70-year-old woman can understand; otherwise, I am voting no.
I think America needs to help our people first. Quit sending money and aid to every country in the world. Quit sending money and troops to countries who constantly fight with each other. This has never made sense to me.
