Veterans Day service set for Nov. 11

The Girard Veterans Council will conduct Veterans Day services beginning at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11 in the city.

The parade will form at the corner of Broadway and Market in the parking lot of Boardman Medical Supply and will step off promptly at 10:30 a.m.

The parade will proceed south on Market to Liberty and west on Liberty to the bridge where a wreath service will be held with the Veterans Council Honor Guard. The service will include a rifle salute and the Girard Band will play the national anthem.

A wreath will be tossed into the river by the auxiliary president of Army Navy Garrison 422 and escorted by the commander of the Army Navy Garrison 422. The parade will reform and march east on Liberty to High, north on High to Main and east on Main to the War Memorial in front of City Hall.

Boy Scout Troop 40 will raise the flag and a rifle salute will be given by the Girard Veterans Council Honor Guard. A wreath will be placed by a member of Auxiliary Unit 235, American Legion and escorted by commander of the American Legion, Kim Burin.

Msgr. John Zuraw of St. Rose will give the invocation and benedictions at both the viaduct service and the war memorial service. The Girard High School band will play the national anthem with Leslie Kloc playing "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes.

Mayor James Melfi will be the main speaker.

The public is invited to attend the parade and the services to honor America's veterans.
