HUBBARD - Sampling the foods made by local restaurants and vendors was the highlight of the fifth annual Taste of Hubbard at Harding Park.
Mary Buchenic, event co-coordinator, said proceeds will be used for the construction of a Harding Park meeting house near the park entrance. Plans also include a pergola. Buchenic said the pergola, like a gazebo, will be available for rentals next spring.
She said the park is well used by residents of the community with the pergola and meeting house to be available for public use. She said while the pergola which is expected to be available for rentals next spring, more funding is needed for the meeting house.

The original bell tower of the church is completely restored.
Buchenic said the event was a popular fundraiser in the past few years, with 19 restaurants and food vendors taking part.
''This gives people a chance to sample the food from our local businesses and restaurants,'' she said.
The event also included restored antique cars, handcrafted items by area vendors and various performances on the bandstand.
Taylor McLalin, a senior at Hubbard High School, and Katie McLalin, both of Hubbard, said they enjoy the event.
''It's fun to come here and try all the different food,'' Katie said.
Bev Creed of Hubbard said she credits the event organizers for their hard work.
''I know it takes a lot of work to get this together, but it's all for a good cause. The people in Hubbard appreciate what they have done,'' Creed said.
''There was a nice variety of food. Everything I sampled was excellent," said Mike Allen of Hubbard.
In addition to sampling food, the public could enjoy antique cars, crafts, a petting zoo and musical entertainment. The Hubbard Library Teen Group entertained with different performances and also helped at the library display booth.
The event was sponsored by the Harding Park Meeting House Building Committee, which is a joint effort by members of Hubbard Rotary, Hubbard CARES and the Harding Park Board. Proceeds will benefit the reconstruction of the historic 1857 Presbyterian Church on its new site at the entrance to Harding Park.
