Students at Liberty High School were the first in the country to perform ''A Light in the Darkness: A Story of Hope During the Holocaust,'' a play that tells the story of Anne Frank's step-sister, Eva Schloss, and her family during the Holocaust.
The play was written by local playwright and director E.J. Ballantyne and was performed by the Victorian Players in October, selling out six of 10 performances and breaking box office records. Schloss attended several of the performances and spoke with audience members afterward about her experiences.
The high school production was held May 18 to 20.

Students at Liberty High School recently staged ‘‘A Light in the Darkness: A Story of Hope During the Holocaust,’’ May 18, 19 and 20. According to Ballantyne, six other tentative productions of the play are scheduled at other locations around the country and abroad, including Seattle, Zanesville, Kent State Trumbull Campus and an American School in London.
The Liberty High School production was directed by Sam Luptak Jr. The lead roles in the production were performed by Liberty students, Alexandria Hanson as Eva, Shania Warren as Fritzi, Brian Root as Erich and Hunter Thomas as Heinz.
Recently J&B Production Art Services released the DVD of the Victorian production. The National Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., also requested a copy of the DVD, Ballantyne said.
