Hubbard Township Police Detective Mike Begeot was recently awarded the Outstanding Professional Assistance Citation by the Ohio House of Representatives.
Begeot, an officer with the department since 1982, was give the citation for his outstanding accomplishments and his dedication to the Ohio law enforcement community.
As a member of the Trumbull County Homicide Task Force, Begeot has worked on various cases with the Trumbull County Prosecutor's office and has assisted in investigations with the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department, Liberty Township Police Department, Girard Police Department and other agencies. His work has included several notable cases in Hubbard Township in which he was lead detective, including a murder for hire investigation in the late 1990s that resulted in four suspects being arrested and charged with aggravated murder and aggravated burglary and a case in which an elderly couple were murdered.
''Serving the people of Hubbard Township is pretty special,'' Begeot said, ''especially since I was born and raised here.''
A 1971 graduate of Hubbard High School, Begeot began his career as a patrolman with Liberty Township in 1977. He began working as patrolman in Hubbard Township in 1982 and was promoted to detective in 1992.
Over the course of his career, Begeot has received many certificates, awards and commendations for his work with the township police department.
''As long as I have my health, I'll keep getting up in the morning and keep chasing the bad guys. '' Begeot said.
