Strickland to name Dann replacement
Special election set for NovemberBy STEPHEN ORAVECZ and RON SELAK JR. Tribune Chronicle

Marc Dann’s decision to step down from his scandal-ridden administration late Wednesday afternoon has opened the door for replacements to begin lining up to fill the rest of his term that would expire in 2010.
A November special election will be held to select a permanent replacement. In the meantime, Gov. Ted Strickland will name a fill-in. Immediately taking the reigns is Dann’s first assistant attorney general, Thomas Winters.
Strickland said he doesn’t have a short list of replacements, and his spokesman, Keith Dailey, said the governor doesn’t have plans to discuss possible replacements.
When asked what qualities he would like to see in a candidate, Strickland said, ‘‘Maturity, experience, management ability. Those certainly are criteria that are essential, especially now. We need someone who can provide confidence in the many, many employees in the attorney general’s office.’’
Jeff Ortega, spokesman for Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, said Democrat and Republican party officials would select one person to run in the election. Each selection is required to be certified by the secretary of state by 4 p.m. Aug. 19, which is 77 days prior the election and 96 days from today.
To get their name on the November ballot, nonparty candidates must file a statement of candidacy and nominating petition containing between 750 and 1,500 valid signatures within 10 days, Ortega said.
Former Ohio attorney general and auditor Betty Montgomery, who is considered by some to be a top contender, said Wednesday in a news release she doesn’t plan to run.
Montgomery said she’s flattered by the suggestions and that ‘‘it has been a very tempting possibility,’’ but she’s decided to not run for other more pressing reasons.
‘‘After over 30 years of public service as prosecutor, state senator, attorney general and auditor of state, it is time for me to take some time for my family and friends,’’ Montgomery said.

The only way gas prices will drop is in November. Great leaders? You mean running to the bank leaders, don't you? We have all that oil in Alaska and they are selling it to other countries, all the gas reserves, just lining their pockets. Makes me sick and we are the ones footing the bill and we have great leaders sitting in their little offices looking down their noses at us, the very people they should be protecting. Who do people think paid the for big fancy wedding? Yeah, we the taxpayers.

Don't you think we have heard enough about Mark Dann. Lets get on with life and more important things, like the price of gas and what our great leaders are going to do about it. Its getting to the piont that I'm paying more for gas for the week then I pay for food.
