Disaster looming if we turn our backs

September 22, 2013

DEAR EDITOR: We are now experiencing in America a subtle but continuing attempt to convince us that God is not real. It is most often not done in an open or even easily discernible way....

God is not the problem. It is all those Republican sinners who refuse to compromise and practice hate for the poor by eliminating Healthcare and Welfare so the rich can have their BIG tax breaks. Jesus would hang his head in shame if he was walking alive on earth today for these so called Christians.

The Government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.

Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we call it the word of a demon than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize...

Question with boldness even the existence of God; because, if there be one, he must more approve the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.

Religious controversies are always productive of more acrimony and irreconcilable hatred than those that spring from any other cause.

George Washington ( He refused to kneel in prayer, take communion, have a priest at his death bed or take last rites) That certainly sounds like a non religious person to me.

God is the only salvation for mankind, however RELIGION is dangerous.Government sponsored religion is a Theocracy, which is an abomination.I have faith,I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins.I believe he sits at the right hand of GOD and will come to judge the living and the dead.I believe that I have the right to pray for "eyesonyou2" but I do NOT have the right to FORCE my faith through Govt. on him or any one else.

During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been it's fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity, in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution.

Certainly, the founding fathers I have quoted here today, not only in their statements, but also in their actions cannot be considered men who had Christianity as a founding principle for the Republic they created. Their wisdom was to give their heirs a secular nation built on reason and not superstition.

I agree, Larry. Unfortunately, the progressive left erodes our Christian heritage at every opportunity. Some day they will pay heavily for their agenda.

Good letter, Larry. The only problem is that the folks commenting are not reading it correctly. It is all about Spirituality. It is about the U.S. turning their backs on God. We are doing what the Israelites did centuries ago defying and turning from God to other gods....gods of greed, materialism, etc. We have also become another Sodom and Gomorrah and everyone knows how that turned out.

Larry, I believe you would be much more comfortable in a country like Iran. In Iran God is included in EVERYTHING. They have not removed prayer, just the opposite the take multiple prayer breaks every day. Their Schools don't just include prayer but rather include nothing but religious teachings. May the United States NEVER become such a Nation.

Laaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyy. We live in a country that was founded on the principal of separation of church and state. Just because some people don't walk around pounding on the bible doesn't mean they don't believe in God.

Larry, don't worry about these angry posters. They missed your message completely which shows that you were on the money. Americans have thrown the baby (Jesus teachings) out with the bathwater (religion). It's good to have separation of church and state in the sense that the law doesn't force citizens to get on their knees and worhsip, but to completely wipe any semblance of God from all government building and ban students from praying in a school because some atheist might be offended is ludicrous.

I agree Larry, with no sense of God there is no moral compass in society. Deceit and divorce and corruption have never been more mainstream in any time in US history.

Families need some moral absolutes to follow. The founding fathers were not atheists, they were deists. They didn't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

If the conservative republicans are the sinners, how come it is the liberal democrats who want to toss god out of the picture?
