Operate golf course like a business

February 17, 2013

DEAR EDITOR: I for one am mortified about the hint of closing Old Avalon Golf Course. I believe that this is a valuable asset to the entire area surrounding Warre....

Let's hope they have degrees for golf Course business.. Knowing when and how much to fertilize would be of the UTMOST importance Burn-out the greens and your looking at 10 months of a closed business.. while your rebuilding new ones..

One of the courses I play in Florida put too much of a new fertilizer down and it took 10 months to reseed .. I wondered why they never put it on only one green to try it out????? they now have a new green( test green) set aside for that purpose .

" LOL! A degree? Seriously? Does a college offer this? and if so why? LOL! "

Spoken by someone who has no idea at all what it takes to manage and operate a golf course.

letsplaygolf, everything Kringle and Carrizo does is without regard for anybody around them. I truly don't care what people of this caliber do and do everything I can to stay away from them. Their money is all that matters to them. Everybody that I have ever met that has worked for either say what grumpy, arrogant, self-centered, self-absorbed individuals they are. I guess it would be nice to have people worshiping you even though you are a dyck, just because you have money. NOTTTTTTTT

The way is being paved for the Avalon Lakes owner to take over Old Avalon. Money talks. Typical Warren politics. We don't need a guy who drove away the LPGA tournament from 1 and possibly 2 of his courses. Avalon Lakes is no longer a Golf Digest Top 100 course anymore since he took it over. If you are a member of his courses and don't like something there or he doesn't like something that you do, he'll just tell you to leave. He doesn't need you as a member. After all, it is his club. So why would this person care about the public golfer who frequents Old Avalon? Let's get an individual who is qualified and educated in golf course operations to run it, not an engineer by trade who thinks he knows how.

Craig, they did operate it like a business. This is how business' that get gooberment funds operate in America today. Take all you can and get out. It's sad to think we all donated to the undermining of this resource in our area. I'm sure there are plenty of local people that could make this place run efficiently and with a profit. Maybe not an astronomical profit, but a profit.

DANNY BOY: you can get your Poker degree at my house next friday.. please bring lot's of money I NEED IT... maybe we could have Blueser serving drinks for tips and dont worry about that drink it will be loaded with TEA..

As a wanna be golfer I feel bad for those who call Avalon South home..

There are people out there who could make a money maker out of that course.. someone with drive and ambition.. the owner or the Course I call home is just such a person.. he took a run down course and small Bar and turned it into a real money maker..Food and beer are making more than the golf course..DARTS, Boccie Ball,Leagues, music, lessons all going things; where there was nothing...

But this guy is a go getter.. you need a hunger in the belly guy who want's a piece of the action not just a salary... there are people like this out there, you just have to find them...

Yes pinhead there are several colleges that offer degrees in colf course management and maintenance. Alot of them even have programs that have internships on pro courses that students must complete to graduate.

"The qualifications of such a position would require a degree in golf course management."

LOL! A degree? Seriously? Does a college offer this? and if so why? LOL!

Keeping Old Avalon Golf Course open so people can smack a 1-1/2 " ball around some grass is the least of peoples worries.
