Are you ready for football?
Like many in the Mahoning Valley, the month of August kick starts one of my true obsessions in life. As August progresses, the heat and humidity start to give way to pleasant days and sweat free nights of sleep. I’ve always seen August as the last deep breath of summer. It was the month in which school started back up, and the question of ‘‘Where did my summer go?’’ ran endlessly around my head while I was being dragged down the school supply aisle with my mother. It has always struck me as a futile battle, because no matter how many No. 2 pencils we bought or how many bags of pens we started out with, by October I had nothing to write with or on. I would like to blame it on the lockers I used in high school, but if it didn’t eat that rather colorful sandwich I found at the end of my senior year, it wasn’t going to eat my blue pens. Anyway, as the end of summer approaches and fall begins to creep into the Valley and across northeast Ohio, one thing takes center stage — football.
