Hubbard city officials ban the Bentons
By RAYMOND L. SMITH Hubbard Community News HUBBARD — A city couple has been banned from calling Hubbard city offices or its employees, unless they are talking about official city business. Mary Benton says she and her husband, Foster, are facing retaliation because she questioned the judgment of the city’s engineer in a letter sent to City Council. The Bentons received a June 3 letter from city attorney Jeffrey Adler notifying them that if she contacts city employees about issues other than city business she would prosecuted for telephone harassment. “I have been informed that both of you have been repeatedly contacting of the office of Hubbard City officials or employees by telephone and engaging in a pattern of harassment,” Adler wrote. “Contacting the city to lodge a legitimate complaint or relate useful information is acceptable, however, engaging in excessive calls to the city which serve no purpose except to harass will no longer be tolerated.” Mrs.
