Empty nesters

And while some mothers and fathers are saddened when their last child leaves the nest for college, a career or marriage and no longer needs to be under their wing, the majority are pleased to finally be free as a bird. According to a recent online survey of people 40 to 70 years of age by the Del Webb Company of Michigan, the nation’s leading builder of adult communities, parents who are or will soon become empty-nesters view the experience in a positive light, and in general, are emotionally prepared once it comes time for their children to leave home. The survey specifically looked at how empty-nesters respond to their children permanently leaving home and revealed they appreciate the additional time now available to pursue their own interests, which often include engaging in hobbies, traveling and exercising.
